About the Chef

Hi, my name is Becky, the chef and founder of Lin and Daughters.
​
I was 13 years old when I first started helping my parents at the family Chinese restaurant, Lin's Kitchen. One of my favorite memories working there were those nights after the restaurant closed when my family and I gathered around the table making dumplings from scratch. It was the only quality time we had to connect and share some laughs.
My dad left China for the United States to find employment when I was 5 years old. We were not able to join him in New York until 7 years later. On many of those nights, we'd end up sharing our stories from the past and it almost became our way of filling each other in on what happened during those years apart.

Through the act of dumpling making, we created fond memories as a family and grew stronger and closer as a result. Dumplings aren't just food to us, but also a symbol of love and unity.
​
Lin and Daughters is a concept born out of my wish to recreate those feelings of being with one's family. It's a place that I hope will make you feel welcomed, as if you were coming to my home to eat food that might remind you of your parents' or grandparents' cooking.
Some of the dishes on the menu use the same recipes passed down to me from my parents and grandparents. The rest are created using a mix of traditional recipe and my own ideas. All of them came from different stages of my life and have bought me a lot of comfort and enjoyment, both in making and eating. Hope they will do the same for you!
